A Quilt for my Brother

No Coast Quilt

A quilt pattern by TheQuiltyArchitect

When Matthew, The Quilty Architect, released this beautiful design into the world, I knew I had to make it in this bright and bold color way for my youngest brother, Mark.

I purchased a quilt kit from Pasadena Quilt Studio that conveniently gave me the exact amount of fabric I needed to make the quilt top. These colors gave the perfect warmth-of-the-sun-on-the-ocean-waters vibe.

Pairing it with an amazing pantograph quilting design, it seemed to make the waves come to life. The design was purchased from My Creative Stitches and it is, no surprise, called Ocean Waves.

Mark is an artist and photographer, living in Chicago. Please go check out his website, markhawkphotography.com. He is incredibly talented. In fact, he took all these photos for this blog post.

On warmer weekends, Mark and his partner take to the water and sail the day away on Lake Michigan. It was only fitting that I add a few appliqué shapes to resemble a sailboat.

Chicago winters are freezing, or so I’m told. I made sure to use cuddly soft and warm fabric for the backing of this quilt.

I even used all the leftover scraps of fabric to make the scrappy binding.

Finally, this was sent off as a Christmas present.

Mark, I’m glad you love it.

I greatly enjoyed making it for you. Even though there were cuss words involved.
